Key Highlights of the 2026 WASSCE Results

Out of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat for the examination across Nigeria and other West African countries, 1,200,514 candidates (61.54 per cent) obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This benchmark remains critical for university admission in Nigeria and other participating countries.

In total, 1,687,378 candidates (86.50 per cent) secured credits in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics. However, the proportion of candidates achieving credits in both English and Mathematics dropped slightly compared to the 2025 examination.

The gender distribution showed that 558,883 males and 641,631 females achieved credits in English and Mathematics. Overall participation was nearly balanced, with 997,267 females (51.12 per cent) and 953,459 males (48.88 per cent) sitting for the examination.

Withheld Results Due to Malpractice

WAEC disclosed that the results of 167,486 candidates (8.59 per cent) were withheld due to alleged examination malpractice. This figure represents a decline from the 9.7 per cent recorded in 2025. Infractions included the use of mobile phones in examination halls despite the ban, organised cheating in certain schools, and misconduct involving supervisors and invigilators. Some officials have already been arrested and will face disciplinary action through state education ministries.

Innovations in the 2026 Examination Process

The 2026 WASSCE Results mark the second edition of the Computer-Based WASSCE for School Candidates. WAEC introduced several innovations to enhance credibility and efficiency, including:

  • Digital Examiner Mark System to speed up result processing.
  • Serialisation of question papers to reduce malpractice.
  • A new e-PIN generation portal that allows candidates to directly obtain their PINs for result checking.

The examination was conducted between April 21 and June 19, 2026, with over 102,000 examiners involved in marking across 88 venues.
